In 2008, The owners of this home had a dream that they had been developing together for some time: to build a LEED certified home on a beautiful, wooded piece of property they owned in Spartanburg County. The two college professors had done their homework. They knew that to build the house of their dreams on their limited budget would be a challenge in the best circumstance. They also knew no owner or builder had yet constructed a certified house in Spartanburg County. Meeting the rigorous LEED requirements on their limited funds would depend on finding the right architect / contractor team with the necessary knowledge to bring their dream to fruition.  The local design/ build firm of Henthorn Architecture + Construction, LLC  answered those needs within a single entity, eliminating the need to find both an architect and a builder who would understand their goals for certification and the  potential misunderstandings, delays, etc., that could plague the design and construction process. In, June, 2009 HAR+C was hired to design and construct the home and in August 2011, the home was certified at the Gold Level under the US Green Building Council’s LEED for Homes program. It was the first home in Spartanburg County to achieve LEED certification.
